Meet Nina Torres.
In 2018 she meet a young girl that had been beaten and left in a local park to die while she was on duty at one of the Houston Medical Center hospitals. This precious young girl was fortunate to be rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment. Nina sat and cared for her during her stay. Nina was someone the young girl could talk to as they spent time together during her recovery process. It was discovered the young girl had been trafficked. She was able to get care for her physical injuries and the necessary trauma treatment to help recover from being trafficked. Trafficking was something Nina had heard about but didn't realize how much it takes place in Houston. It is a hideous crime that is hidden and we tend to turn a blind eye to. And many people just don't want to talk about it.
As the young girl opened up and shared her story it broke Nina's heart. No one should experience the trauma this young girl had endured. It was during this time that Nina decided she had to do something. The more she learned about trafficking she knew she couldn't close a blind eye and remain silent. Nina contacted Be The Light and volunteered her time and talent to help Be The Light with our first fundraiser which was held on November 1st, 2018 at Villa Capri Restaurant in Seabrook TX. Nina has since become an advocate for women's issue and human rights.
